The "smarties" on Jeopardy know a lot about a variety of subjects. They have to...that's how they get on the show. I like to think that I'm pretty good at Jeopardy, shouting out a few answers here and there, but really I would come in last place every single time.
Unless, of course, most of the categories were about tv, movies, (some sports) and other pop culture. I would clear the categories on my own, and the crowd would applaud at how amazingly fast I buzzed in with the right answer.
If you pay close enough attention to Jeopardy most contestants save the pop culture category for last. They pick "The History of the Wheel" or "Around the World." They know things like who invented the apple peeler, or the name of Queen Victoria's head chef, or how much wood could a wood chuck chuck! It's crazy what these people know.
But today I was watching and you know what clue none of the contestants buzzed in for with Spice Girls in the category? "Tell me what you want, what you really really want...is this popular song...?" Okay, I can't remember the clue word-for-word, but they gave part of the lyrics! No one buzzed in. Hello? It's WANNABE!
Typical Jeopardy "smarties." They may have a broad knowledge of everything textbook, but they don't know the most popular song by the Spice Girls. They may know that Millard Fillmore was the last member of the Whig Party to hold the office of president, but they don't know the name of the actor who plays the lovable Jim Halpert on The Office.
This is how I know why I will never be on Jeopardy. I can't compete with the contestants who choose "American Politics of the 1940s" over "American Pie Sequels." I really have no chance at all.

Wednesday Musings: Take Niner
A Salute to Wednesday Musings: Take Nine...here is a quote.
"Two, four, niner, five, six, seven."
"I can't hear you, you're trailing off and did I catch a niner in there?" - Tommy Boy
I was watching The View this morning and I could NEVER be a guest co-host. Too much interrupting.
On the same note: I think Joy Behar's hair is getting bigger every year.
I made my own shirt for the Brewers game on Saturday! It's really awesome, if I do say so myself. I'll post a picture of it tomorrow.
Last night I taught my almost 2 year old niece how to "pound it." Our fists explode and everything.
My five year old nephew plays T-Ball and he constantly wants to be the one who gets the ball. At his game on Monday, he was playing shortstop and was cheering for the other team to "HIT THE BALL!" over and over. Then he went up to his teammate and asked him "Do you know any Star Wars people?" Needless to say, I laughed throughout the entire game.
My sister, Tyne, did a giveaway last week for one of her necklaces. Now she is taking orders. If you would like her to make you one or buy one that is custom made, drop by at TyneBoden Necklaces. She made one for me. It's a wishbone one and it's really cool!!
In movie news: I'm seeing Sex and the City 2 tomorrow with my sisters. I'm taking my oldest nephew to The Karate Kid sometime next week. And last, but definitely not least, I'll be seeing Toy Story 3 the week it comes out!!!
It's weird that all the movies I'm about to see are remakes or sequels.
Have a happy Wednesday!

Wednesday Musings: Take Eight
Have you ever felt needed so much that you want to scream? I had that feeling today, but now I'm okay :)
Slams the Door turned 22 yesterday. I wasn't able to provide her with a proper cake, so I took out a couple of Fudge Rounds and stuck two matches in them. I wasn't able to provide proper birthday candles either.
I dyed my hair yesterday. It's darker than my original hair color, but I reallyreallyreally like it :) I'll post a picture of it next week sometime.
I'm very independent, VERY independent. I don't know why either.
Did anyone see the season finale of House on Monday??? It was amazing!!! I think I'm in love with Hugh Laurie.
On Sunday, I went and saw A Nightmare on Elm Street in theaters. Wow, job well done my friends. I give that movie a standing ovation for recreating a classic horror film in good taste. (Sidenote: This was the first time I went and saw an actual "scary" movie in the theater. I was nervous that I was going to scream, but I didn't) I jumped and threw my hands in the air instead.

Babysitter's Club
Yesterday I watched my nephew Connor, and niece Addie. We played Star Wars, ate pizza, went to the Castle park, treated ourselves to Coldstone ice cream, and ended the night with The Goonies.

Connor, of course didn't want to watch the movie, but he did. And he, like Connor does, asked A LOT of questions.
"Who are those people? Who is that? Did they find the treasure yet? Why are they the Pepperelli's?" Is that a real dead body? How did they move that? Are they good guys? What are they trying to do? Why is that doing that?"
Addie added to the movie viewing experience with, "Uh oh" and "UP!"
I tried to answer Connor's questions, but he's hard to keep up with.
Who are those people? The Fratelli's
Who is that? The older brother
Did they find the treasure yet? Nope
Why are they the Pepperelli's? :) Not the Pepperelli's...the Fratelli's
Is that a real dead body? No, it's a fake one (I didn't want to scare him)
How did they move that? Magic (I wasn't really paying attention to that part of the movie)
Are they good guys? Yep
What are they trying to do? Make a lot of noise on the pipes, so people will hear them
Why is that doing that? Because they pounded on the pipes too hard
Can you turn this movie off? Yes
Connor got a little scared. He told me as he was putting on his pajamas: "I think I'm going to have bad dreams tonight." This coming from the same kid who loves Jurassic Park.
So we ended the night with Spongebob and Phineas and Ferb. If he had any bad dreams I'm blaming the talking sponge.

Is Bigger Better?
Most of the time, yes.
I think everyone has different scales though. I was watching House Hunters this morning (and technically it was morning, because it was before noon) in my pjs and this lady thought the master bedroom was too small.
Ummm, not me. I thought the master bedroom was GINORMOUS! It was the size of my living room! (Which is pretty big, I think) What is she planning on putting in her room? An aquarium for Shamu?
But is bigger always better? Not with cell phones. These things are getting bigger every week! I want one that fits in my back pocket, not one that acts as a seat cushion when I sit down at a restaurant. And with the iPhone, I bet they have an app for that.

Wednesday Musings: Take Seven
I fell asleep to the Syfy channel last night. The X-Files was on, and I love that show. MULDER!!! SCULLY!!!
A dude called me this morning about furthering my education. Seriously? I'm graduating on Friday and I don't think I'll be furthering my education for awhile. Hello? Freedom!
I'm pretty sure I ate my Erb's and Gerb's sandwich last night with my eyes closed. And I'm pretty sure I ate it all except for one bite which is now wrapped up in the fridge.
I went out for Heather's birthday last night. Which should explain the blind eating.
The "Job Switching" episode of I Love Lucy is on right now. It's probably one of my favorite episodes. That and "Vitameatavegamin."
I used to be able to recite Lucy's Vitameatavegamin commercial word for word when I was younger. "Hello friends. I'm your Vitameatavegamin girl..."
Slams the Door and I never got to finish our doubles tennis match. So it will forever be a tie between us.
I'm going to leave you with a clip from the I Love Lucy "Job Switching" episode. Have a happy Wednesday!

Wednesday Musings: Take Five
I want to see Date Night so badly! I've known about this movie for about two months now...thanks imdb.com
My one credit Application Letter online class gave me a fright on Monday. I forgot to do my last assignment and take the final quiz on Friday when it was due. As of two days ago I had a total of 40 out of 80 points for my final grade. I freaked out, did my assignment and took the quiz, then quickly emailed my professor.
To think that this stupid one credit class could have held me back from graduating....ugh!
I got an email yesterday from my professor and she said it was alright. YAY! No more worries.
The latest craze seems to be dressing up in nerdy attire with nerdy glasses. I don't like it. If you're trying too hard to look like Steve Urkel, then something is wrong with you. "Did I do that?" Yes, yes you did. Now stop doing that.
I've been craving spicy food all week. My mouth is on FIRE!
I watched Law and Order: CI last night, and I'm sad that Goren and Eames are
gone. Did I cry? Ummmm, maybe a little bit. Okay, jeez, I cried through the entire last scene. Then I watched it again at midnight. It was a very good episode!!!
Sometimes I browse random blogs by clicking the "Next Blog" button at the top of my screen, and I somehow got a string of Spanish blogs. I couldn't read them. No Habla Espanol!

I Can Bend that Way Too
Psshhhh, yeah right!
I was watching Regis and Kelly this morning since Tennis was canceled due to rain, and they had three contortionists from the Ringling Bros. Circus perform live.
I've never seen anyone bend their body that way.
It was disgusting, but I couldn't stop watching these three women from Mongolia or Malaysia...I can't remember where they are from, but that's not the point.
They started out in this clear small box and then slid out with no problem. I tell ya, if I was stuck in a box with two other individuals, someone would have to pry me out with ten foot pliers and a little help from Mr. Petroleum Jelly.
Then they start doing things that I can hardly begin to describe. But I'll try, for the sake of this post. One of them gets on her belly and curls her feet up behind and over her head. Another one gets on top of her and bends in an unhealthy way while the other one climbs on top of the second one and they don't fall over!
CRAZY!
I can't even hold a headstand for more than 10 seconds. My sit and reach flexibility is me barely touching my toes.
My pilates class has improved some of my flexibility, but Regis and Kelly won't be calling me up anytime soon to perform Abdominal Preparation.
This is what these insane contortionists were doing on the show, except this isn't the woman from the show, just someone on google images. Ouch!
Sick. Sick. Sick. It looks like she is giving birth to her own head.
Not cool.

The Beeping Noise of 24 Makes Me Smile
Ahhh, I love random thoughts. Did you know that I completely forgot about the movie 2012 until I saw a Blu-Ray ad for it on tv? Of course you didn't. You probably forgot about that movie too.
The baby talking E*Trade commercials are hilarious, but a little creepy.
Speaking of babies...I want my children to be average. None of this crazy smart kid stuff. I don't want to have to pay for advanced piano lessons or science camp every summer. Plus, smarter kids are harder to please. The zoo isn't much fun when your kid starts naming the domain, kingdom, phylum and class of the aardvark.
Every time someone says, "Aardvark," I think of the Arthur spelling bee episode
When I was younger and had sleepovers at my bff's house, we would try and stay up as long as we could playing Donkey Kong on her Super Nintendo. We would gather up about 100 lives to try and win the game.
I don't answer my cell phone if the number isn't one of my contacts. If they really want to get a hold of me...they'll leave a message. Turns out it was someone from work...you are now in my contact list. Now I know when to ignore it the next time. jk jk hahaha!! No seriously... ;)
I'm in a Humor Writing class, and I don't think my instructor is very funny. Shouldn't that be a prerequisite for him??
Right now I'm watching the Olympics and this dude did a skiing flip thing for freestyle skiing. I didn't know it was possible to spin and twist and flip that many times and not kill yourself. Way to go person! (I didn't catch his name).
I'm really looking forward to Parenthood on NBC. I hope it gets good ratings. My fingers are crossed-not literally though. Otherwise, how would I be typing? My legs are crossed. Okay, my legs are crossed now.
When I turn the heat on in my car sometimes it smells like maple syrup. Why is that?

Thick Walls Make Good Neighbors
I live in a huge house with 6 or 7 other apartments. There are three apartments on the main level - one of which is mine. My bedroom shares a wall with another apartment. Needless to say, thick walls make good neighbors, and thin walls, well...don't.
I swear, the people living next to me have watched every episode of The Office more than once. They had to have, because they've been watching it since this summer! I love that show, but come on! I've come to the conclusion that they don't have cable.
For awhile there, they started watching Sex and the City. That didn't last long, I heard them humming annoyingly to the theme of The Office by the next day. I can hear it so well that I can pick out which episode they're watching. Have I mentioned that I love The Office just as much?
Anyway, my roommate has told me to pound on the wall, but I refuse. If I can hear them, then they can hear me laughing boisterously at The Golden Girls. You heard me right, I think Rose is a hoot!
I know the house I live in is older than old, but the walls are incredibly thin. I bet the apartment next to me is wondering why I laugh sporadically throughout the day or yell at random moments. If they only knew that I think most things in life are funny, and that my roomies are hard of hearing ;) Just kidding, the living room is pretty far from my room.
So as I borrow from Robert Frost's popular poem Mending Wall, "Something there is that doesn't love a wall," I can't help but think he was referring to the builders of this big old house.

Happy Anna Howard Shaw Day
I love 30 Rock, so for those of you who don't understand what my title means, let me explain. Liz Lemon, played by Tina Fey, is tired of Valentine's Day so instead of living through another painful Valentine's Day with no one, she decides to get a root canal. Anyway, she names the day Anna Howard Shaw Day after a suffragette who was born on February 14th. She explains this to one of her co-worker's daughters when asked to buy cookies for Valentine's Day. Lemon says she is buying them for Anna Howard Shaw Day instead. Obviously, Lemon has had some bad Valentine's Day experiences. There you have it my friends, Happy Anna Howard Shaw Day!
That doesn't mean I've had bad Valentine's Day experiences, because I haven't. For the last four years I've gone to a movie with my friend Jenny...unless we have dates ourselves (which we haven't had). This year we're going to go see Valentine's Day, which is appropriate, right? Titles these days...
Except, we aren't seeing the movie tonight on account of Jenny being in Texas. We're seeing it later this week.
So how will I be spending Anna Howard Shaw Day? First things first, I'll shower. It's 2:30pm and I'm still hanging out in my bed watching Bewitched on TBS. Maybe I shouldn't have stayed awake until 4:30am watching Inglourious Basterds...thanks Todd and Joe. Then I'll get some homework done and relax.
Sounds pretty productive to me.
Here's to everyone having a Happy Anna Howard Shaw Day!

An Old Soul
Ever since I was little I watched I Love Lucy and Gilligan's Island in syndication on TV Land. I wished that The Munsters and the Cleaver family lived down the block. I laughed at Janet, Chrissy, and Jack as they got themselves into uncomfortable situations before the eyes of Mr. Roper. None of my friends appreciated the humor of Larry and his two brothers - Darryl and Darryl, let alone knew what I was talking about.
While I grew older and started to plan my future, I hoped for a roommate named Laverne or Shirley and a best friend named Rhoda.
It isn't all about television shows either. My iPod is crammed with songs by The Temptations and Roy Orbinson. I sing along with Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, and try to hit the high notes with the Jackson 5.
I've written a paper on The Big Chill, and watched The Ghost and Mrs. Muir on a Friday night instead of going out. Every time The Parent Trap (1961) is on, I watch it. And I recently bought Tootsie on DVD.
I remember watching Rear Window, The Birds, and Psycho with my parents and thinking that those were the scariest movies in the world. I was literally afraid to go in the bathroom, for fear that birds were going to come out of the closet.
Jimmy Stewart, Natalie Wood, Audrey Hepburn, Rex Harrison, Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, and Bogey and Bacall are household names for me.
And then I think about what my future children with swoon over. Will they wish they were a part of Friends and Home Improvement? Will they laugh alongside Will Ferrell, or fall in love with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, or scream with Scream and cringe with Saw? Will their ears be full of Britney Spears, The Backstreet Boys, Lady Gaga, and Shania Twain? I can only hope so.
