I'm on the hunt

The hunt for a job, that is.

Why does it have to be so tough? Why does everyone require experience? I went to college and earned a degree. I put my sweat and tears into my education.

And a boat load of money.

A Titanic sized boat load of money.

If I would've known that every single job out there wants 5+ years of experience, I would've taken summer jobs at a newspaper or at a local magazine. Instead, I worked retail and food service...where I might add, I acquired excellent customer service skills. "Would you care to order any appetizers while you wait?"

I've been actively looking for a job for the past month. It's draining. But I'm staying as positive as I can. Something will turn up. It has to.

  1. Apply for any job that looks interesting to you, regardless of the experience they "require". They use phrases like that to weed people out. Apply for EVERYTHING.

  4. Can't really get much experience in your field during the summer months when the only positions available are the retail and food service jobs...
Employers look to see who is willing to work and learn. Your past employments will reflect that!

  5. Don't let it get to you too much. I'm sure the job you're looking for also requires a degree, so someone out there has to be hiring people fresh out of college with no work experience in that specific field. And like Stevie said, apply for everything!! You might be surprised at some of the opportunities simply applying might get you. Good luck!!

  6. I feel your pain, I have been looking for a year now and nothing but "I wish you had more experience", "The position was filled" or my fav "We'll keep you on file".

  7. I feel you Kinsey. I had been through the same thing. Sometimes personality makes up for the lack of experience, honest. Good luck:)

  8. I have the same degree as you and went through this whole job hunting thing for a very, very long time. I'm a resume whiz (though you probably are too since you're a writer and all!), but if you want me to help I'm here! I think I know all the right ways to market your degree with no exp. It's all in how you sell yourself! :)

  11. I'm right there with you girl. Not the whole just graduated from college thing, but the job search thing. I've been out of the work force for, well, quite awhile, and I'm not exactly getting employers knocking on my door! Best of luck in your job search!!!
